We have 4 different types of accommodation at The Falls Retreat, all set in beautiful natural woodland and within a few minutes walk to Owharoa Falls and the popular Hauraki Rail Trail. A delicious continental breakfast is included in our bed & breakfast rate which includes freshly baked sourdough bread, house-made muesli, jams and preserves and seasonal fruit or choose to upgrade to a delicious cooked breakfast which gets delivered to your cottage “ room service style”. Be sure to add on one of our delicious gourmet grazing hampers to enjoy in your cottage or around the property which is packed with a range of cured meats, a delicious salad using organic produce from our veggie gardens artisan cheeses, salad and sweet treats (suitable for a meal for two people).

We pride ourselves on being a family friendly establishment and kids up to the age of 5 can stay for free! We have a portacot available on request and a fantastic kids playground -  we are also happy to welcome dogs with advance notice!

Set on two levels, Log Cabin is a traditional style log house which offers charming, country style accommodation . The main bedroom is downstairs (and next to the bathroom) with a luxury super king bed and a view of our beautiful surroundings for complete rest and relaxation. The mezzanine level upstairs has a queen bed and a king single with trundler, suitable for accommodating extra family members or a group of friends! Downstairs is the ensuite bathroom with a shower over a shub and a cosy lounge fitted with a log fire and open plan dining and full kitchen.

The French windows open out to a covered verandah area with outdoor furniture to enjoy the long Summer evenings. 

Log cabin is fully equipped with all crockery and utensils for up to 6 people, but if you want a night off then why not order one of our gourmet grazing platters to share. You will also find a TV/DVD player and the small library offers a selection of books and magazines. All bed linen and towels will be supplied, and a delicious continental breakfast offered to you as standard. Rose Cottage is located next door and be booked out together to accommodate larger groups.

Located next to the Log Cabin and set on two levels, Rose Cottage offers charming, country style accommodation. The A-frame bedroom is upstairs, tastefully furnished with an inviting queen size bed for complete rest and relaxation. If you are a family with a child or a couple of kids, we have a pull-out couch upstairs that can make this a snuggly family bedroom.

Downstairs is an ensuite bathroom and a cosy lounge is fitted with a log fire. An adjoining kitchenette includes a fridge, a mini oven with hot plate and washing up sink.

The French windows open out to a patio area with outdoor furniture to enjoy the long Summer evenings.

Rose Cottage is fully equipped with all crockery and utensils, or you could order one of our gourmet grazing hampers to share. The kitchenette has a microwave, toaster, kettle, mini fridge, electric frying pan and an outdoor barbecue.

You will also find a TV/DVD player and the small library offers a selection of books and magazines. All bed linen and towels will be supplied, and a delicious continental breakfast offered to you as standard.

This quaint little cabin is a nature lovers haven and is perfect for getting away from it all! Measuring only 10m2, it has been designed with the "tiny house" ethos in mind with an amazing view of the falls, an outdoor bath and a cosy loft for sleeping.

Everything about it screams character,  so if you are looking for a glamping style, natural retreat then come and experience it.

The cabin also has an ensuite bathroom with shower and WC. There is a kettle and toaster so you can enjoy our complimentary home-made breakfast basket and take in the peace and tranquility. Why not order a gourmet grazing hamper to share in this idyllic setting.

The bed is on the mezzanine and is accessed via a ladder. Please note the L shape seat can also be turned into a small double bed for those not able to climb.

Foodie Experience

If you enjoy good food then this package is for you! Here at The Falls Retreat we pride ourselves in our paddock to plate ethos, where we use fresh seasonal produce from our kitchen gardens to create our own range of seasonal pantry items plus award winning dishes in our Bistro. This is your opportunity to enjoy all of this and more in our relaxing environment.

Based on 2 people and includes one nights accommodation PLUS:

• A personalised “Garden To Table Experience” in our organic veggie gardens where we gather and taste ingredients and you can learn how we use a variety of fresh seasonal produce throughout our menus. Enjoy a house-made welcome drink while you learn about our garden to table ethos. This is automatically scheduled at 4pm for the day of your check-in but we maybe able to adjust this if you give us advance notice.

• A delicious 2 course gourmet grazing hamper showcasing our best house made produce including house made chutneys & pickles, regional cheeses, house cured meats, freshly picked organic salad from our kitchen gardens and a dessert platter of house made sweet treats. Suitable for dinner for 2pax

Romantic Getaway

There's nothing quite like a getaway in a secluded cottage, surrounded by native bush and birdlife.  Situated in the Karangahake Gorge, nature is literally on your doorstep.  Relax and stay indoors, walk down to the beautiful Owharoa Falls, or take a walk or ride along the riverbank trails - the choice is yours.

The Cure

Immerse yourself in nature and relax! Based on an ancient Japaense principle of forest bathing, this package is designed to help you disconnect from technology and enjoy our beautiful natural environment. Located in the stunning Karangahake Gorge, opposite the stunning Owharoa Falls, its a short walk down our driveway for a cold immersion dip, or maybe just a relaxing stroll along the river. Sleep in or take in the sunrise, listen to the birds, breathe in the forest and let nature restore you!

Based on 2 people and includes one nights accommodation in one of our charming cottages PLUS:

• A housemade wellness drink on arrival.

• A delicious 2 course gourmet grazing hamper showcasing our best house made produce including house made chutneys & pickles, regional cheeses, cured meats, freshly picked organic salad from our kitchen gardens and a dessert platter of house made sweet treats. Suitable for dinner for 2pax

Hauraki Rail Trail Package

Karangahake Gorge is the jewel in the crown of the Hauraki Rail Trail. The Falls Retreat is ideally located to explore as the Rail Trail runs literally along the bottom of our driveway, giving you the opportunity to cycle either direction. Heading towards Paeroa takes you through the stunning Karangahake Gorge and through an old mining tunnel ( 1km long!) giving you the opportunity to do a loop back and ride back. Alternatively, you can follow the meandering river towards Waihi, over swing bridges and enjoy a ride back on the Goldfields Vintage Railway ( which will also take your bike on the open carriage). Or why not just rest your weary legs and enjoy our fantastic food and hospitality before embarking on the next leg of your trail.

• One day bike hire for 2 people. Bikes will be delivered at 9am on the day after your arrival. The Rail Trail runs literally along the bottom of our driveway giving you the opportunity to ride towards either Waihi or Paeroa and enjoy the stunning scenery in both directions. When we get asked "What is there to do in the area?" we find ourselves smiling. The main reason for this smile is because this area has so much to offer that people are often surprised. The other is the fact that the gorge has managed to stay somewhat of a hidden treasure to most of NZ, so when it is discovered it is never forgotten.

The main attraction is the HAURAKI RAIL TRAIL. This cycle pathway runs from Paeroa to Waihi and conveniently runs along the bottom of our doorstep, which means you can cycle either way. 

The route to Paeroa takes in the dramatic scenery of the gorge with it's waterfalls and rapids and of course the tunnels and bridges.

The route to Waihi is more of a rural cycle ride taking in the countryside. It is very picturesque and peaceful. You can even cycle to Waihi and then get the train back!
